Private channels and roles
Keep private conversations restricted to the right members in the right language.
The access rule#
Discord server owners and administrators retain Discord’s unrestricted visibility. An administrator account cannot prove that ordinary-member privacy is configured correctly.
Where admins should make changes#
- Manage the original conversation’s audience on the original channel.
- Let Bunny Translate manage its mirror-channel overrides and dedicated access roles.
- Do not manually hand out generated access roles as a substitute for original-channel membership.
- After membership changes, allow reconciliation to complete and check /translator status for retries.
Test both allowed and denied access#
- Use a regular member who belongs to the original conversation and selects its language: they should see the matching room.
- Use a regular member who selects that language but does not belong to the conversation: they should not see it.
- Change a member’s language and confirm the old language access is removed after reconciliation.
- Remove original conversation membership and confirm its translated access is also removed.
Role hierarchy and limits#
Keep the bot’s role above the language and access roles it manages. Each private conversation uses an access role per language, so large configurations can reach Discord’s role limit. Reduce unnecessary combinations before adding more. A role-limit or hierarchy error must be resolved before a sync can finish.
